Function and Application

A taper key releases tools with a Morse taper shank from the spindle, tailstock, or a reduction sleeve, without needing a drift key and a hammer blow. The lever mechanism engages the tang of the tool taper through the cross slot in the socket and pushes the taper out evenly. This protects the spindle bearing and quill, replacing the classic method of drift key and hammer.
